Options for Women will hold its 7th annual Walk For Life and BBQ on Saturday, May 8, at the Bowling Green City Park. (Social distancing will be encouraged and sanitation measures will be provided according to covid guidelines.)

Registration will begin at the lower shelter house at 10:30 am, with the Walk beginning at 11:00. Registration is also available online at www.supportlife573.com. Walk For Life T-shirts will be available for purchase as well.

A barbecue will be held at the shelter house by the city pool with eat-in or carry-out available from 11 am to 1 pm. The menu will include hamburgers, pork burgers, hot dogs, prepackaged chips and desserts, bottled water and lemonade.

Proceeds from the barbecue and donations from the Walk will go to support Options for Women Pregnancy Resource Center, located at 1420 S. Bus. 61, Suite B at the roundabout in Bowling Green, as well as the new Options for Women center being developed in Hannibal.

Options for Women opened in Bowling Green in 2016 and serves pregnant women and young mothers and fathers from Pike and surrounding counties. Services provided include lab grade pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and life coaching, all confidential and at no charge. Pregnancy, parenting, and life skills classes are offered free at the center and online, with incentives for participation. Options for Women also offers referrals for medical help and temporary housing for expectant mothers in need, prenatal vitamins, counseling and support for those grieving an abortion or miscarriage, adoption referrals, information on abortion pill reversal, a mentoring program for young men, and ongoing support and encouragement to young parents.

The center is maintained through the generosity of donors and community volunteers, and is currently in the process of opening a second center in Hannibal. Participants and donors may choose where they want their donation to be used: Bowling Green, Hannibal, or where the need is greatest.
